Back to the Future day is here! For the uninitiated, 21st October 2015 is the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to at the end of the first Back to the Future film, 30 years on from 1985 (when the original film was set).
Question: technically we live in the future; does this make us all time-travellers?
The web is awash with what does and doesn't match up from director Robert Zemeckis's vision of 2015 and it turns out we didn't get hoverboards or flying cars (damn). But it did get us thinking: what has stayed the same?
Cher
"If I could turn back time", she once sang. She didn't need to. She froze it instead.
'Life preservers'
Gilets. Still cool.
Eastenders
It made its TV debut in 1985. Ian Beale is STILL THERE.
Mobiles
Britain's first mobile phone call was made on Jan 1st 1985 and now everyone has one. We'll overlook the fact that no one uses mobiles for actual calls anymore.
Uproarious laughter about a potential American president
How the Doc of 1955 guffawed when Marty told him that in 1985 the actor Ronald Reagan was President of the USA. Hilarious. Until you remember that Donald Trump actually has a chance of being their next one.
Perms
Marty's hottie girlfriend Jennifer is all about a perm. This year, hottie St Vincent rocked the same do to the Burberry show.
Nike trainers
OK, so they're not self tying like ones in BTTF's 2015 but Nike kicks are still up there as the ones to wear.
Clint Eastwood
He actually made his cinema debut in 1955, the year Marty travels back to in the first film. SIXTY years later he's still going strong. But not looking as good as Cher.
