Big news: Nine Perfect Strangers is on its way back to screens with a season 2, and with the first two episodes premiering 22nd May 2025.
We can't wait for the next instalment – the first series was a hit after all. Set in an “alternative” wellness resort, it followed the lives of nine burnt-out urbanites seeking the Holy Grail of renewed energy and clarity at a health and wellness resort based in the fictional town of Cabrillo in California.
Yet, over their 10-day stay, hosted by the mysterious Masha (played by Nicole Kidman, who has stormed onto our screens with hits aplenty lately, including The Perfect Couple, Holland, Babygirl, we could go on…) it begins to emerge that all is not what it seems – and the clients might be getting much more than they bargained for from their spa getaway.
The first season was much more closely based on the novel of the same name by Lianne Moriarty (who also wrote Big Little Lies) and boasted a cast that included Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans and Manny Jacinto. Season 2 is said to be based on the book as source material, but will be based at an Austrian resort that doesn't feature in the novel. Nicole Kidman is, of course, returning for the show's second outing as Masha.
Here's everything else we know so far about Nine Perfect Strangers season 2, including the first look pics.
Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 trailer
“Nine people chosen under bizarre circumstances for a healing retreat… feels like a set up.” Mark Strong's David is immediately suspicious of Nicole Kidman' Masha, and for good reason.
It looks like each guest at the “retreat” is taken back to a core memory of theirs, which is likely to cause a few dramatic moments. Masha herself looks to be coming face to face with her own demons – can she heal herself, like she seems to be trying to heal others?
Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 cast
Joining Nicole Kidman on the cast for Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 will be Mark Strong, Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians), Lena Olin, Annie Murphy (Schitt's Creek), Christine Baranski, Lucas Englander, King Princess, Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), Dolly de Leon, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Mark Strong and Aras Aydin.
Annie Murphy is taking on the role of Imogen, who she describes as “incredibly intelligent, and does her best to make that immediately clear to whoever she meets. Unfortunately for her, and despite her desperation for the opposite effect, her know-it-all personality doesn’t make her the most likeable person in the room.”
Murphy has some insight on Kidman's Marsha, too, saying “Nicole brings an absolutely unpredictable energy to Masha, which has kept us all on our toes. She has become a really interesting character this season, because it’s become more and more unclear as to whether she’s the hero or the villain.”
As for Henry Golding, who we're used to see play romcom leading men, his character ‘Peter’ has more to him than meets the eye: “Peter is the son of David Sharpe, the renowned billionaire. In a way he’s grown up in the shadow of his well-known father whose main goal was to build his businesses and make money,” explains Golding.
Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 plot
The new season's plot synopsis reads as follows: “Nine new strangers connected in ways they could never imagine are invited by mysterious guru, Masha Dmitrichenko (Nicole Kidman), to join a transformational wellness retreat in the Austrian Alps. Over the course of a week, she takes them to the brink. Will they make it? Will she? Masha is willing to try anything in the interest of healing everyone involved, including herself.”
What will this season mean for Masha? Will she face a harsh fate? How will her new “strangers” fare? We can't wait to find out.
Episode 1's synopsis has us hooked already: “A group of strangers looking to transform themselves and shed some of their past lives make the trek up to the grandiose Zauberwald, a boutique resort (or is it a former sanatorium?) in the Alps. Here, they hope to reinvigorate their minds and bodies under the guidance of newly minted celebrity wellness guru Masha Dmitrichenko, who has moved her practice here in hopes of eluding legal trouble stateside –
and reconnecting with her past. But as the group encounters Masha for the first time, they can’t help but wonder: Have they bitten off more than they can chew?”
