In today's serious news, Nicole Kidman has finally broken her silence over her clap that went viral during the Oscars 2017. Need a reminder? Watch below...

Oscars viewers took enormous glee in comparing the Oscar-winning actress's clapping to, among other things, Edward Scissorhands, a seal, and the Grinch.

Now Kidman has confirmed why her clap was so, erm, unique.

Talking to KIIS FM's Kyle And Jackie O, the 49-year-old actress said that she didn't want to damage her enormous Harry Winston ring.

"It was really awkward, and I was like: 'Gosh, I really want to clap'", she explained.

"So therefore I'm clapping but it was really difficult because I had this huge ring on which was not my own but was absolutely gorgeous and I was terrified of damaging it," she said.

Fair do's, Kidman. If we were wearing 119 carats of diamonds that weren't our own, we'd probably be extra cautious too. Imagine being presented with that bill?! Eugh.
