Forget 'free the nipple', next season is ALL about freeing the vulva. Well, that is certainly according to one NYFW designer. Berlin-based fashion label Namilia is giving vaginas their moment, putting your lady parts well and truly on the forefront of the fashion agenda.
The Namilia Spring 2018 show was a not-so subtle tribute to all things fanny. The collection stars pearl and floral embroidered minges, pink balloon vagina sleeves, a Marie Antoinette-like patchwork lady garden-embroidered hoop skirt and feather-trimmed muffs on a regal satin skirt. Redefining the term V-neck, the label incorporated vulvas as part of the geometry of the clothing, including a blazer collar and the puff of a sleeve.
Making your summer wardrobe bolder than ever before, the designers, Nan Li and Emlia Pfohl were inspired by Denis Diderot’s The Indiscreet Jewels. The 1748 novel is about a sultan who suspects his mistress of infidelity. So, a genie gifts him a magical ring which, when rubbed and pointed at any woman’s vagina, tells the sultan about their past sexual experiences. Right.
Appropriately, the models in vulva-embroidered shoes strutted down the catwalk to a medley of Disney tracks. Naturally.
