Listen to Mumford & Sons' new single! Plus, Snoop Dogg turns reggae, Ben Howard's floaty new offering, Michael Kiwanuka's timeless soul and the beauty of the Dum Dum Girls...
Mumford & Sons
Track: Will I Wait
Album: Babel, Island Records , 24 September 2012
That's right folk pop fans - Marcus Mumford is back with his band of merry banjomen and a brand new celebrity wife to unveil this, the first single to be taken from Mumford & Sons' second album, Babel. There are no surprises - expect the same warm, twangy, chorus-driven ballad that you so loved from their first offering, Sigh No More, with added tarmac. Our verdict? If it ain't broke…
Snoop Lion
Track: La La La (Feat. Major Lazer)
From: Reincarnated, Vice Records, Autumn 2012
We have to admit - when we first heard Snoop Dogg was going to reinvent himself as a tea cosy-sporting feline reggae star, we thought it was a joke. A particularly hilarious, not entirely unbelievable, but definitely worth a few rides in the roflcopter joke. Turns out, it's not. It also turns out it's really not half bad. In fact, we kinda love it. Who knew Snoop could sing (sort of)? Check out La Lion below:
Ben Howard
Track: Old Pine
Album: Every Kingdom, Island Records, Out Now
Yes, yes he does look a bit like David Cameron at certain camera angles, but don't let that put you off. The perennially tousled British singer/songwriter has re-released this hazy, sun-soaked Bon Iver-worshipping track just in time for a long, hot summer weekend, and we can't think of anything more suitable. Onto the laze list (like a playlist, but far more stationary) it goes…
Dum Dum Girls
Track: Lord Knows
From: End Of Daze, Sub Pop, 25 September
One word: beautiful. Buy now, and forever play on repeat. Oh, and go buy the EP when it comes out next month, too.
Michael Kiwanuka
Track: Bones (24 Sept 2012)
From: Home Again, Polydor/Communion Records, Out Now
Those folks at the BBC know a thing or two about up-and-coming talent, and, if this timeless track by their Sound Of 2012 winner Michael Kiwanuka is anything to go by, they really hit the nail on the head with this year's guestimations. Emulating the charm, simplicity and emotive nature of a long gone era, it's a welcome return to an emotive, soul-drenched musical past we're happy to revisit.
WE'RE ALSO LOVING…
…That Justin Timberlake is making a musical comeback! JT has been busy cementing career in Tinsel Town of late, but it appears he's missed the (vocally) high life, and is back in the studio, his producer confirmed. In other comeback news, Pete Doherty has revealed that he is indeed writing new material with his Libertines bandmate Carl Barat… If he can stay out of rehab limbo, that is. Until next time…
