Miley Cyrus is firmly an icon in the music industry – we knew that well before she picked up her Grammy awards at this year's ceremony.

In keeping with the occasion, however, the singer wore a hairstyle that referenced one particular icon in the music business we know and love. That would be country singer Dolly Parton, Miley's godmother. Bursting with volume, you have to see this look in all its glory.

The musician, who was nominated for six and won two awards, definitely proved that you don't always need a dramatic new haircut or hair colour at the Grammys to make a statement. Her bouffant 'do was one of the most talked-about beauty looks of the night.

The singer's dark brown, highlighted hair was blow-dried back into a voluminous blowout for her appearance on the red carpet. PSA: If you want to even come close to achieving this level of volume, you'll need to blow-dry with a round brush set it in rollers, using plenty of hairspray to keep it in place.

The important thing with this look, however, is to loosen everything up at the end with a comb, or use your fingers to brush through so that the hair still has some movement and isn't stuck in place – as Miley demonstrates, this is sexy, undone volume.

Miley's hairdresser, Bob Recine, has shared how he created the star's latest look. Describing the style, he said: “This year we decided we wanted something dry and bigger, more fuller hair, but sexy and tousled and touchable.”

He also explained that he created Miley's ultra-volume by teasing the hair at the root, following her blow-dry:
