Meghan Markle honoured the Queen by wearing gifted pearl and diamond earrings

They reportedly came straight from the Queen's personal collection.

Meghan Markle wore a touching tribute to the Queen on Wednesday 14 September, as her coffin was moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. 

For the royal procession, Markle wore a pair of pearl and diamond drop earrings that Queen Elizabeth II gave to her ahead of their first public outing together—a visit to Cheshire—back in 2018, per People. The earrings reportedly came straight from the monarch's personal collection.

Markle styled her hair in a low bun, which made the meaningful earrings stand out. She wore a mesh-veiled hat, long black coat with black tights, and black heels. Here's Markle's full look:

Perhaps Markle and sister-in-law Kate Middleton coordinated, considering Middleton also wore an item gifted to her by the queen: a pearl leaf brooch.

In the days following the Queen's death on 8 September, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry – who moved to California and stepped back from their position as senior royals in 2020 – have accompanied the family to several official events. 

Last weekend Markle and Prince Harry joined Prince William and Middleton (now the Prince and Princess of Wales) at Windsor Castle to admire flowers left for the queen. Prince Harry also wrote a statement about his grandmother that was posted on the couple's Archewell website.

“Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings—from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren," he wrote. 

“I cherish these times shared with you, and the many other special moments in between. You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over. And as it comes to first meetings, we now honour my father in his new role as King Charles III.”
