GLAMOUR takes a trip to the new Meatliquor Queensway to sample the burgers and check out the vibe. Here's our verdict...
Review: Meatliquor, Queensway, London
Where? 17 Queensway, Bayswater, London, W2 4QP. 020 7229 0172
What? Exactly what it says on the tin, meat and booze, but with the obvious side-options of bowling and roller-skating. Situated on a vibrant street just off Hyde Park, seconds away from both Queensway and Bayswater station, Meatliquorâs newest branch is ideally located.
Greeted by two smartly dressed bouncers we descended into the heart of the venue. A classic American diner feel instantly shines through. Although modernized with a contemporary lighting set-up and a street-art influenced décor, there is an undeniably edgy vibe that comes across as genuine.
We ate⊠Loads. I had the Dead Hip-Pie [in association with square pie], which came in a traditional pie form, with minced burger meat at the centre, surrounded by fries with hippie sauce and pickles. The pastry was crispy, with the cheese and mince coming together to make a deliciously gooey inside. A strong portion size, definitely worth its value at a relatively modest £8. My friend had the Buffalo Chicken Burger, the hot pepper sauce and blue cheese made it the more adventurous of the two in the flavour department. We also shared the Green Chilli Cheese Fries. They definitely come with a kick -
milder options are available - but for the spicy lovers out there, these are delicious side.
We drank... They have a really diverse mix of drinks, most coming in under ÂŁ10 (the âGame Overâ definitely looks worth a try, maybe not on a work night though...). I had two Dry Daiquiriâs, really light and refreshing, it was sweet without being sickly and went down well against the heat from the Chili Fries. My friend had a Space Gin Smash, which she disrobed as âLike a Mojito, but I keep coming back for moreâ. Followed by a Snoop Dogg, which is basically the nicest gin and juice youâll ever have, definitely for the sweeter pallet.
Activities⊠We avoided the roller skating for health and safety reasons, but vacated our cozy booth for a spot of bowling. The alley definitely adds to the retro diner vibe and you can wear your own shoes which is a massive bonus. Unfortunately, they didnât have the sides up so the scores were kept low.
Another innovation, each lane has a buzzer installed so you can get the staffâs attention to order more drinks which makes continued boozing a seamless activity. More drinks.. My friend went all out and got a Black Forest Shake, unbelievably fresh and creamy, which a strong kick from the JD.
Donât forget to ask... at the reception for bowling, the lanes do fill up and it adds a really fun dimension to your night. Also leave some space for the Hard Shakes, theyâre amazing.
The perfect +1... Definitely a good spot for groups. A great place for an after work hang-out, or take advantage of the extensive list of strong drinks to get your night started and line your stomach with something a little more interesting than your usual bar food.
Verdict... I would definitely go back, theyâre clearly trying to do something a bit different and all the staff are really enthusiastic. The menu looks good across the board and Iâd love to try a few more burgers with some of the stronger cocktails (probably after bowling).
