Oscar-nominee Margot Robbie and model Cara Delevingne were holidaying together in Argentina last month when they had a potentially dangerous run-in with paparazzi. In a new profile with Vanity Fair, Robbie briefly discussed the incident, along with what it was like to become famous seemingly overnight.

In the interview Margot said that she struggled with fame following her breakout role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street, directed by Martin Scorsese. “Something was happening in those early stages and it was all pretty awful, and I remember saying to my mum, ‘I don’t think I want to do this,’” Robbie told Vanity Fair. “And she just looked at me, completely straight-faced, and was like, ‘Darling, I think it’s too late not to.’ That’s when I realised the only way was forward.”

Margot Robbie has since learned how to live her life as an extremely famous person. “I know how to go through airports, and now I know who’s trying to f*ck me over in what ways,” she said. But it still has its downsides. When Robbie and her Suicide Squad co-star and close friend Delevingne were in Buenos Aries in October, a paparazzo tried to take pictures of them as they got into a taxi. Reports from last month said that as a photographer chased them down for a photo, the driver started moving the vehicle before Robbie and Delevingne were fully inside it. Robbie confirmed that she was not injured but added, “I could have been.” She also said she could not comment on the incident further due to ongoing legal issues.

Robbie also opened up about the much-discussed photos of herself appearing teary-eyed after visiting what was reported to be Delevingne’s home in Los Angeles. Robbie said that her mum called her after she saw the photos to see if she was okay. Robbie said she was fine, so was Cara, and that she wasn’t even at Cara’s house: She was at an Airbnb. Oh, and she wasn’t crying, either. “I had something in my eye. I’m trying to grab my face mask, trying to hold a coffee cup, and I couldn’t get a hair outta my eye.” Celebrities have never been more relatable than this.
