What do Love Island, Love is Blind UK, and MAFS UK all have in common. Yes, they're all iconic British dating shows. But they are also all shows that seem to be stomping ground for ex-footballers. Apparently, the UK is absolutely full of one-time football stars who have given up their careers and are looking for love.
On the latest series of MAFS UK, that footballer in Steven Springett. Steven was introduced in the second episode of the new season. He and Nelly were the fourth couple to walk down the aisle. And so far, things seem to be off to a flying start.

Who is MAFS UK Steven Springett?
MAFS UK's Steven is a 34-year-old investment banking manager from Essex.
According to one source, he was practically made for reality TV. “Steve is a real character and will make unmissable TV – he’s really hot, but he’s trouble – once he walks up the aisle everyone will be talking about him," said the source to The Sun. Sounds promising… and kind of ominous.
Four couples have been matched so far.
Yes, Steven is also an ex-footballer, putting him in pretty good reality TV company. Steven used to play for Ebbsfleet United as a teen, but a “horrific” attack cut his career plans short.
He was leaving the club when nine men attacked him. The attack, Steven later told the Daily Mail, was motivated by an old college dispute.
“I fractured my right cheekbone, I've damaged my teeth, I've got a few scars on my chin,” he recalled. “I shattered my nose, so I've still got a slight bend in there, but I had reconstructive surgery.”
At first, Steven was in a “horrible place.” He had to wear a face mask to leave the house and, for a while, didn't want to go outside.
“My positive outlook, why I am the way I am today, the way I see the world… is because of that attack. At first it was like I've got scars on my face people are going to see me a little bit differently. But now I see them as the reason I am who I am. It's character building. It shows that I've won, and they lost.”
Steven has two kids from a previous relationship. His daughter Piper is nine years old and his son Reggie is 5 years old. His son has autism and sensory disorder.

Off to a good start so far.
Steven was paired with Nelly, a 30 year old dentist. Both were nervous, but they were immediately happy to see each other at the altar. Steven said “what an entrance” when Nelly arrived and later told producers he was “feeling” her. She also had no issues about his children. And based on the teaser, their honeymoon will only see them getting closer.
