When it comes to jewellery trends, I've always been partial to those that involve large, chunky, gold pieces, so the styles that have emerged on the autumn/winter 2024 runway have got me particularly excited for the arrival of sweater weather. Besides the heavy dose of nostalgia and bohemia, there's also an XXL quality to every piece – that has made even the most retro items feel bold and modern. I love how Saint Laurent, for instance, leaned heavily into the boho trend, as models wrapped in sheer, earth-toned layers glided down the runway wearing giant stone jewels. Also on their wrists were stacked bangles – a '90s jewellery staple – but refreshed by going transparent, giving the boho-chic style a 2024 spin.

Speaking of boho, the resurgence of this beloved, free-spirited aesthetic has also birthed the return of long pendants necklaces. We saw an inkling of this trend emerge ahead of summer with rope necklaces attached to all sorts of ocean-inspired pendants worn by our favourite It girls, but for autumn the trend takes on a more grounded aesthetic – with long, thin chains attached to stone and metal charms alike.

And when it comes to rings (my favourite), we're seeing a fully-fledged love affair with vintage or vintage-inspired pieces. That means ornate, art-deco styles or giant gemstones adorning intricately-crafted halos. We've certainly seen the setting as an engagement ring favourite in recent years, but now the style set are wearing them as everyday accessories. Below, see the top five luxury jewellery trends that you need to know as you head into autumn.

1.THE CHUNKY CHOKER

Gold chain necklaces aren't going anywhere (phew!), but we're seeing their lengths creep a little closer up the neck. In general, chokers are definitely back as a statement accessory, this time benefitting from the XXL treatment, whether they're made from bead, metal or stone. Paired with a turtleneck jumper or dress, it could be the cherry on top of a very stylish outfit.

2. THE BOHO PENDANT

Swap your summer, rope-and-seashell necklace for its big sister for autumn. Offered in stone and metallic pendants or even mini sculptures suspended on thin chains, the idea is to lean into the boho-chic trend and let them hang loose. This style is best worn with higher necklines too, which works well with our covered-up layers for autumn.

Let your digits do the talking this season by bedazzling them with giant, vintage-inspired rings. In particular, art deco styles have re-emerged as this season's choice, with large gem stones and geometric patterns taking centre stage. So dust off grandma's jewellery box – there might just be some hidden gems (had to) tucked away, just waiting for their time to shine.

Who would have thought that the stacked bangles popularised in the ‘90s and noughties would come back so soon? Gigi Hadid was recently seen sporting this trend, piling up on colourful bangles for the her look at the Deadpool & Wolverine premiere. For those allergic to loud colours, however, you're in luck. Saint Laurent turned the Noughties accessory transparent on their autumn/winter runway, making them look more futuristic than nostalgic.

Over-the-top, ‘80s style earrings first came raging back onto the runways (and into our hearts) on the Bottega Veneta and Saint Laurent runways – and they’re still in favour today. Just look at Schiaparelli – our go-to for sculptural, dramatic pieces – where models wore almost Egyptian-like gold earrings in extra-large hoops. The point is, more is more this season, so don't be afraid to go big!
