We need to talk about Dave. Love Is Blind has a habit of delivering at least one misguided dude who is… well… a little polarising. Or who at the very least just doesn't seem to get how love works. We have most certainly not forgotten Sam, for instance, the project design manager from the UK series of the show – who was so desperate to be loved he kind of forgot he would also have to, you know, love someone back.
On the eighth season of Netflix's dating show, we already have a strong contender in the form of Dave. Dave is a guy who instantly set our red flag radars off when he proclaimed he was in the show for all of the right reasons (not caring about looks over personality) while simultaneously passing judgement on, checks notes, how women look. Dave works in medical device sales, and, as he proudly told Netflix, he was used to being around “too much Botox”. Mmmkay.
So without further ado, here's what we know about Love Is Blind's Dave.
Who is Dave from Love Is Blind?
Dave, or David Bettenberg, is a 33-year-old from Minnesota. Although David said he worked in the plastic surgery space while he filmed Love Is Blind, according to LinkedIn, he is now an Account Executive at Veritext Legal Solutions.
Dave's journey on Love Is Blind so far
In the first six episodes of Love Is Blind season 8, we've gotten to know Dave/ David a little better.
First thing's first: Dave didn't exactly get off to a good start in the pods. His blunt opening line for his dates was, shall we say, a little controversial. “Why are you here? What’s wrong with you?” he asked each woman as he sat down in the pods.
Some women laughed it off, others came right back at him with the same question. Eventually, he did do a little reflection. “Oh man, to be brutally honest, I have just kind of been an ass to women in my previous dating life. I really wanted to confront myself about that.” We appreciate the honesty – but yikes.
Since then, he gave an interview to The Viall Files podcast, saying: “The crazy thing about that is… if you kind of understand that humuor or whatever, people can tell it was a joke.”
He added: "I'm happy I approached it the way I did because, like, it landed with a lot of women, honestly. It made things fun. I have a personality, so I was happy to, like, show that side of me.
“It also weeded out a lot of the people that I didn’t connect with. It helped me get there a little bit quicker. I like to keep things light, you know, keep it fun and honestly that came out in the speed date portion right away. I was just trying to have some fun with it and see who I connected with.”
Dave shocked viewers once again when he sat down with Lauren for a pod date. When she told him she was 30, he replied, “OK, so you’re no longer attractive.” She replied, as anyone would: "Oh my God! Should this be the first date I walk out on? It might have to be.”
Again, he claimed he was joking.
He then made another weird joke: “I have my own OnlyFans.”
Somehow, Lauren and Dave actually end up getting engaged in the pods. (After Dave has another spark with Molly, naturally.)
We can only imagine it'll get more interesting from here.
Why do we treat our relationships with women as frivolous, and only see ourselves marrying a man?
