The hair drama around Emily in Paris season 5 has begun – and we've already fallen down a rabbit hole. Lily Collins seems to be matching her bob to the country she's filming in – a move that could be a new take on method dressing?

In every season of Emily in Paris, Lily's character, PR girl Emily Cooper, has gamely served up memorable hair moments courtesy of the show's award-winning hairstylist Mike Desir. He has, in fact, created no fewer than 54 different hairstyles on Emily alone, he tells GLAMOUR, since the hit Netflix series launched in 2020.

There were the perfect S-shape waves in season 1 that sparked lively WhatsApp chats with my friends about what size barrel she used to tong her hair.

Season 2 was all about experimenting with different styles – from an Audrey Hepburn-inspired bouffant and low ponytail to a twisted braid up-do. In the opening episode of season 3, we saw Emily chop her own hair into blunt bangs when having an emotional moment. Cue an evolution of different hairstyles (18 to be exact, Mike says) to disguise what the show described as “trauma bangs”.

In season 4, she delivered a masterclass in how to style long curtain bangs to avoid that awkward growing-out phase. So, what does Emily Cooper have in store for us in season 5?

On May 7, an image of Emily sitting on a Vespa was posted on the official Emily In Paris Instagram account with the caption “Lights, Camera, Amore - Emily in Paris Season 5 is now in production!”. Fittingly, she is sporting a sleek, mid-length Italian bob in homage to the Rome setting, again styled by Mike who refreshed her hair every month to keep the same length hair.

The Italian bob typically combines a high-shine finish with full-bodied lengths curled neatly under at the ends. Think soft glamour with plenty of swing throughout this neck-grazing style.

This was followed by a post on Lily's Instagram a week ago where she and the Emily in Paris crew visited the Vatican. Here, her hair is styled in a flicked-out bob, adding a new textured twist to her Italian bob, still with its longer lengths.

But following the breadcrumbs, could Emily Cooper now be back in Paris? Yesterday, Lily Collins took to her Stories where she posted a selfie with her long-time personal hairstylist George Northwood, thanking him for “training it to Paris” to cut her hair.

From the picture, it looks like her strands are shorter, grazing her cheekbones in a French-girl style that takes its cue length-wise from Amélie Poulain, the title character in the film Amélie. The ends are blunt-ish without being completely even, and she's avoided getting another fringe – all of which stops the look from being too sharp or graphic. Is this new cut being written into the script as we speak?

So we maybe know the location of Emily in Paris by Emily's hair – as for what it says about the state of her love life? Only time will tell. But we already can't wait to see what mood board-worthy hairstyles Mike will create on the set of season 5.
