I can't quite wrap my brain around Kristen Stewart's latest look, honestly. The Love Lies Bleeding star just stepped out in cable-knit underwear, which seems both impractical and very cozy. Bizarre but comfy?
Stewart's stylist, Tara Swennen, paired the creamy cashmere garment, which is hemmed in brown, with a pretty silk button-down, buttoned at the collar only, and a nude bra. Stewart wore her shaggy hair tossed to the side and accessorised with dark rimless sunglasses, high patent leather heels, and a boxy handbag. For extra support (and, presumably, warmth), she wore pantyhose underneath. The overall effect says quiet luxury… but make it confusing?
It's an interesting lesson in “street style” versus “fashion style,” in that if Stewart were dressed this way in a photo shoot or walking down a runway, I probably wouldn't think twice, but in the context of New York City, or real life, it strikes a gal as… something!
She has abandoned the heterosexual constraints that once defined her career.
Actually, it's growing on me.
Shmancy underwear is a burgeoning trend among the high-fashion set, of course. Miu Miu's bedazzled briefs come to mind. Cable knit is surely more wearable than those!
Stewart has been leaning into body-conscious dressing in the run-up to Love Lies Bleeding, her sexy new lesbian drama. Toting the same bag pictured here, she wore a Y2k-ish “going-out top” made just of strings of beads for an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and again paired hosiery with… not a lot else… for the movie's premiere. Seriously, this bodysuit could cut glass.

Plus, she previously experimented with underwear as outerwear at Chanel's pre-Oscars party. The longtime brand ambassador wore Chanel boxers in a crisp bright white, which, combined with this latest outfit, raises the question: Does Kristen Stewart not fear spills? I fear spills.
