Julia Fox has left the Balenciaga-esque silhouettes and the so-cut-out-it's-barely-there rags behind. She's embracing the return of Tumblr-era Indie Sleaze, and her latest outfit proves it.
Stepping out in Los Angeles, the Uncut “Jyeams” star paired oversized sunglasses with a tank dress, featuring seams that create the appearance of a corset.
Her hair was styled in the popular “wet look,” which is to say, “greasy but make it rich,” and she kept jewellery to a minimum. Her black dog-shaped purse matched her black combat boots and black bra and underwear poking through the sheer dress. Summer ain't over!
Perhaps the most genius detail is the label, though, and we don't mean some flashy “label” label; right on her tailbone is a tag for the brand Hanes. Talk about “her way.”
On Instagram, Julia Fox both took and gave credit for the look, writing, “Showtime wearing my angels @seks.llc X @hanes collab man beater dress that I inspired (fulfilling my muse duties). I’m obsessed with this @thombrowne bag! Prior to wearing her last night I had her on display on a shelf in my bed room for 2 yrs! Finally found an outfit worthy of her 📸 @bobby_pap_la.”
Reading between the lines here, it looks like the bag was an early-pandemic purchase that sat unused for years and, uh, relatable. Who among us doesn't have that one item we panic-impulse-bought in 2020 and have yet to even try on? The tie-dye kits went the way of the sourdough starters….
If you want the dress for yourself, you'll have to try a secondhand (sustainable!) source like Poshmark or Depop; the limited edition collection stopped shipping weeks ago. Then again, two tank tops, some white thread, and a red Sharpie might do the trick. And really, wouldn't that be way more downtown? Way more punk? Way more edgy?
Listen, I dunno, I wear J.Crew — have fun.
