Oh, hell, Jess! Jessica Simpson is totally glowing in her latest selfie, a makeup-free snap she posted to celebrate turning 43. The singer, clip-on-bangs-preneur, shoe boss, and author smiled under some honestly pretty great natural lighting in what looks like a red robe, a stone necklace, and swingy hoops. “43 makeup free (kinda. Ha. I did curl my lashes),” she wrote under the snap.

Her sister Ashlee, of Pieces of Me and ‘Caught Lip-Syncing on SNL’ fame, commented, “Happy Birthday my beautiful sister love you so very much.” Added Child of Destiny Kelly Rowland, “HAPPY BORNDAY JESSICA!”

(For those asking for her skin care routine, IDK, but she did promote… whatever this is!)

Of course, curling your eyelashes doesn't count as makeup! But I'm just gonna say it: Jessica Simpson, with all the love in my heart, I believe that you are wearing lip gloss in this picture.

Speaking of baring it all, her memoir, Open Book, continues to be a must-read for fans (and critics) of early-noughties celeb culture. In an exclusive interview with GLAMOUR US back in 2020, she opened up about the writing process and the lessons she learned from looking back: “I’ve kept journals since I was 15. Going through them for the book was going through a lot of the demons again. But it’s also going through a lot of the good. It was like finding my way home to myself… I called it Open Book because I am an open book and I don’t have secrets,” she said, proving herself right when she got super honest about her high-profile relationship with John Mayer, and what readers should take away from it.

“I mean, my advice is to pick up on those signs. If there have been three breakups, stop it there. There can’t be 9 to 10, because that’s immature. That’s not love. If you’re actually in love, you’re not going to give up.”
