A hill I'm willing to die on is that autumn/winter fashion is superior to summer, and H&M Studio's pre-fall capsule collection has just proven my point.
Launching this morning – just when we needed it most – the limited-edition line-up looks to the fashion set's favourite street style location for inspiration throughout its lookbook: Copenhagen.
The timing couldn't be more perfect; Copenhagen Fashion Week was earlier this month, marking the start of the new season by (already) looking ahead to the next. A city known for its effortlessly cool and laid-back outfits, the Danish capital sees everything from traditional tailoring and minimalism to more modern shapes and playful fabrics – which, as you'd expect, is what this collection is made up of.
“The H&M Studio pre-fall capsule is tailored but with a lived-in feel, like it's been effortlessly curated over time,” says Kathrin Deutsch, collection designer at H&M Studio. “We selected materials like leather and knits and combined them with denim and more ethereal lace and mesh. It's this mix of elements that really make it distinctive.”
Guaranteed sell-outs are the buttery brown suede leather jacket and the loose fit multiway sweater with sleeves that can be tied in front or worn as normal, but there are plenty of runway-inspired key pieces that you should still take note of (and add to cart).
A delicate lace dress with asymmetric ruffles adheres to the romantic necklines seen at Ralph Lauren, Chanel and McQueen this season, while a snake-print mesh top takes influence from Dior, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy's obsession with tulle.
Elsewhere, some of the best straight-leg jeans I've seen this year – in a two-tone dark wash, of course – a regular fit flounce mini skirt and a long-sleeve polo. All your A/W wardrobe needs (bar the usual T-shirt and leggings combo), really.
