Brits woke up to the news that Hillary, a Democrat, will officially be facing Donald Trump in the fight to become US President later this year. She was formally nominated at last night's Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

After a lengthy battle to take the title of Democrat nominee 2016, opponent Bernie Saunders announced: "I move that all votes cast by delegates be reflected in the official record, and I move that Hillary Clinton be selected as the nominee of the Democratic Party for president of the United States." He has shown his support to Hillary in previous weeks in an effort to unify the Democratic party.

This is Hillary's second attempt at becoming the Democratic nominee, her first being in 2007 when she lost out to Barack Obama.

Supporters of Hillary were unsurprisingly delighted at the news. Stars such as Lena Dunham and Chloe Moretz took to Twitter to share in the triumph:

Hillary herself posted a series of tweets, the most memorable of which simply said the word "history".
