When you think of Gigi Hadid, you think all-round supermodel with a kick-ass edge. And you'd be right. No one can deny that the 21-year-old has dominated this year. Having landed countless campaigns and magazine covers, paced the runways of every major fashion house, she's now released her own fragrance, The Girl, with Tommy Hilfiger. It's a fresh, sparkling scent that manages to harness both sophistication and playfulness in one (seriously dressing table-worthy) bottle.
To celebrate the launch, GLAMOUR flew to New York to sit down with the model of the moment and find out what it really takes to look that gorgeous (besides enviable genes). Here, Gigi talks us through her fragrance, fashion and beauty commandments. Take serious note.
"Fragrance is so powerful because it can totally change your mood and attitude. It can say so much about who you are so you should always pick a fragrance you connect with. When I was working on The Girl I loved it so much because it reminded me of my back yard in California. Jasmine, pear and Cedarwood just take me right back there to long, carefree summers."
"Starting with less is more when it comes to beauty is so helpful because you find out what really suits you. Play around with different looks in your own time before letting loose. Once you know what you like, then you can start being adventurous with your glam."
"If I need a quick beauty fix, nude lipstick is always my go-to. I carry it with me everywhere so I can just put it on if I need a pick-me-up. My favourite is Maybelline Nude Embrace."
"I have a lot of drugstore items that are so good I don't know why you'd pay more money for them. I love Maybelline mascaras and lipsticks and I use St. Ives Apricot Scrub on my skin."
"My makeup artist, Patrick Ta, and I send each other screenshots of looks that we'd like to do all the time. We're both trying to be more adventurous with beauty so it's really fun to keep a record of inspiration. I do the same for fashion - when I'm on set I send images and designs and things that inspire me to my stylist Monica Rose and we work from there."
"Sleep is really important. It's the key and if I don't have enough I really notice the difference in my skin. When it comes to products I always recommend an exfoliator so that you can get rid of dead skin and leave a clean complexion. Also you should moisturise to hydrate your skin and always use an SPF for protection."
"Being comfortable in what you're wearing is chic, it doesn't mean you're sloppy. My style is always comfortable. I love streetwear but even when I'm going out I love to pair a trainer with a mini dress. You can always dress an outfit up or down."
"I often choose an outfit that's all one colour - it's slick, clean and flows together, but it also photographs really well."
"Leather boots and white trainers are my wardrobe staples. Having these items are such a good wardrobe base because you can dress up or dress down any outfit you like with them."
"I love to look through clothes and add my own inspiration to them whether that's with a vintage piece or an accessory. You can always add your own little personal touches to your outfits."
