Gigi Hadid, notably a California girl who now makes her home on the East Coast, has a knack for striking just the right balance between a laid-back West Coast vibe and a buttoned-up New Yorker. On a recent walk around Manhattan, for instance, Hadid paired blue jeans with a raw, fraying hem with classic loafers, a perfect combination of hippie and preppy.

To fight the NYC chill, she also layered up, covering her feet with thick knit socks and donning a suede trench coat that emphasised her shoulders, a lightly militaristic style balanced by a cozy bandana-print scarf and accessorised with a brown leather shoulder bag. Neutral tones plus jeans is pretty much always going to work. Also worth noting that just a month ago Hadid had a matte black bob, though she traded it for her regular bronde a few days later.

It’s a little comforting to know that even someone as privileged as Gigi Hadid can’t navigate city life without walking past bags of rubbish on the street. We all live in the same reality sometimes.

We’ve seen Hadid in a version of this outfit before, and maybe even with the same shoes. In December she stepped out with boyfriend Bradley Cooper while wearing distressed denim, what look like her loafers, and a cropped army green jacket, adding a scarf for warmth. It was a deeply millennial-coded ’fit, and this latest ensemble is a bit more grown-up, but both work!

Hadid loves a belted-coat moment; this shearling piece paired with rain boots was a bolder choice that also emphasised her tall frame. And she’s been on a loafer kick, no pun intended, for a minute, pairing slip-ons with barrel jeans for date night.

The good news is if raw-edge jeans become a big trend for 2026 you don’t need to spend a dollar, assuming you already own scissors.
