It's the story that has us gripped - the allegations that President Hollande is having an affair with French actress, Julie Gayet.

1. Who is President Hollande?
Francois Hollande heads France's Socialist Party, and was elected President in May 2012.
2. The allegations
Closer magazine, the same French magazine that got in trouble over those Kate Middleton topless sunbathing pictures, ran a picture-led story detailing President Hollande's affair with 41-year-old actress, Julie Gayet.
3. The details - including delicious croissants
The magazine alleges that Hollande arrived at Julie Gayet's apartment late at night on the back of a scooter, wearing a motorcycle helmet, and 'identifies' the President's bodyguard arriving with a "bag of croissants" into the apartment the following morning.

4. France's First Lady
To add a touch more drama to the story, Hollande's partner, Journalist Valerie Trierweiler has been admitted to hospital. Her office said she had been admitted on Friday "for rest and some tests".
The couple are not married but she fulfils the duties of a First Lady.
5. What President Hollande said
A spokesman for the French President said that Hollande was considering legal action because he "deeply condemns the attacks on the right to privacy which he has a right to like every other citizen."
6. What he didn't say
He didn't deny the claims of an affair, or being at the apartment.
7. What France has to say on the matter
An instant poll revealed that 77% of the French people thought that the "love of the president" was a private matter that concerned only Francois Hollande.
8. The outcome
Closer Magazine has now removed the report off its website following a request from Gayet's lawyer.
9. The future
Since President Hollande came to power, his popularity dwindled. We doubt this will do much to help matters. Hollande's relationship with Valerie Trierweiler, or whether they will be able to get past the cheating allegations is still to be confirmed...
