If you thought the reign of the pixie cut had been eclipsed by the bob, think again. Emily Ratajkowski has just stolen its crown back with a new choppy pixie cut that has set the Internet on fire.

Gamine cuts are currently ruling supreme, with everyone from Zendaya to Hailey Bieber trading in their longer styles for something more playful. Now Emrata has joined the short hair club with her own spin on the trending elf crop.

Emily has become something of a hair chameleon of late, trading in her signature long brunette mane for edgier styles. Back in February she debuted an Italian bob with a choppy fringe on the front row at Marc Jacobs Fall 2023 show in New York. OK, it turned out to be a wig but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm for a shorter chop on the model.

She's also been ahead of the noughties' Indie sleaze curve for a while now by ricocheting between undone kinked lengths and a sleek signature brunette fringe. But this time Emily Ratajkowski has gone all out and raised the bar for those who are considering a shorter haircut for spring.

Instagram content

It's fair to say that Emrata was barely recognisable when she shared behind-the-scenes photos of a  punk-like pixie cut with sharply shorn sides, extra length on top and mussed-up separation.

In an Instagram carousel, she's seen posing on a bed with minimal makeup that played up her boyish brows and a series of outfits, ranging from a sheer lace white shirt and matching fishnet trousers with cutouts along the sides, to a blue see-through dress.

It's not the first time Emrata has rocked a textured pixie cut. Channelling Audrey Hepburn she shocked fans by donning a wig in the run up to the Met Gala back in 2018. In the past six months she has also revealed a penchant for faux bangs at Cannes. As for whether we've been fooled again? Time, or at least Instagram, will tell.
