READ: Adele's note to Elton John on his wedding day

Adele sent Sir Elton John a hand-written note to say sorry for missing his and David's wedding on Sunday.

The 26-year-old singer penned the note from her, her partner Simon Konecki and their two-year-old son Angelo, to say sorry for not making it to their big day, but wanted to wish the couple good luck.

She wrote: "Biggest congratulations my loves. Have a wonderful day. I'm sorry we are not there. See you in 2015. Love Adele, Simon and Angelo. x."

Elton John posted a picture of the letter - which Adele penned on headed note paper from floral designer Rob Van Helden, who also attended the nuptials - on his Instagram account alongside several other congratulatory cards sent to the couple.

He added the caption: "The perfect end to the perfect day. So many kind thoughts and wishes. #ShareTheLove".

Usually when a celebrity gets married, you only see the pictures when they're in the pages of Hello! but Elton John decided not to be a celebrity cliché and created an Instagram account to show off his special day - and there was even a hashtag!

The Rocket Man singer officially tied the knot with David Furnish at their estate in Windsor in south east England on Sunday - which just happened to be the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership.

The couple - who met in 1993 - shared their special day on Twitter and Instagram, with Elton joining the image-sharing social network especially for the occasion. The hashtag: #ShareTheLove.

Alongside an image of the couple signing the legal forms, Elton wrote: "That's the legal bit done. Now on to the ceremony! #ShareTheLove @DavidFurnish (sic)."

It was a star-studded affair, with the Beckhams out in full force. The couple's close friend Liz Hurley attended with her son, Ed Sheeran, Gary Barlow, and Lulu all posed for a picture together and David Walliams and his wife Lara Stone also were in attendance.

The menu included a very yummy-sounding beef and caramelised onion pie with roasted potatoes and parsnips.

Afterwards, guests were treated to a warm chocolate pudding and, of course, some classic wedding cake. The paps outside were also treated to mince pies and coffee - how sweet.

The 67-year-old and his 52-year-old partner have long been an advocate of gay marriage, and supported the decision for same-sex couples to marry when it became legal in March.

The decision to wed comes nine years after they committed themselves to each other in a lavish ceremony at the Windsor Guildhall which was attended by Victoria Beckham and Helena Bonham Carter among other stars, but it is believed this afternoon's ceremony will be a more low-key affair, with Elton saying earlier this year: "We'll do it very quietly. But we will do it and it will be a joyous occasion and we will have our children."

The night before, Elton indicated that their sons Zachary, three, and 23-month-old Elijah would be a key part of the celebrations, writing: "Our little ring bearers are fast asleep, and their shoes are polished and ready for tomorrow's celebration. @EltonJohn #ShareTheLove#DavidFurnish (sic)."
