Another day, another way to diet.
Yes, a new study has found that if you diet for 12 months consecutively, you're much more likely to keep the weight off long-term.
Scientists say that it takes a year for chemical changes to occur in your body which would allow it to maintain its changes.
During the experiment, the scientists put 20 obese people on a strict diet for an eight week period where they lost on average of 28lbs each. Then, following a strict diet for the next 12 months, it was found that their bodies produced less of the hunger-inducing hormone Ghrelin and more of the hormone GLP-1, which typically suppresses appetite.
In a way this sounds great. It's a much better alternative to any awful crash diet and it allows you to have enough time to really learn about what you're putting in your body and adopt it as a lifestyle rather than a fad. BUT, abstaining from any pizza for a whole 12 months really does sounds like quite a challenge to us. Sob.
