Demi Lovato's hair has undergone quite a transformation through the years. The Disney Channel alum has coloured her hair with a ton of glorious shades, and has experimented with just as many haircuts. Now, just in time for 2023, she's trimmed her jet-black, grown-out pixie cut into a gorgeous choppy shag.
Demi arrived at the 2022 UNICEF Gala on November 29 in an off-the-shoulder, black-and-white gown and her piece-y new short hairstyle. Her grown-out length might even make the cut a qualified bixie — a popular '90s haircut that's both a bob and a pixie — but an edgier, more modern take on the style. Her side-swept bangs covered her eyebrows almost completely, and her strands were styled with added volume, lift, and a bit of texture for extra movement. This is a big change for the "Confident" musician, who chopped off her dark hair and dyed it blonde in November 2020, rocking an undercut and later a bowl cut.
The short choppy cut looked gorgeous on Demi, though we'd never expect otherwise. With the shoulder-baring dress, her pixie cut gave us a clear view of some of her body ink, namely the fine-lined spiderweb on her shoulder, detailed butterfly on the side of her neck, and the words "love" and "fear" tattooed below each collarbone. These three tattoos are just a fraction of what adorns Demi's body, and only make this cool pixie look even edgier.
But it seems Demi Lovato is ahead of the curve with this cropped cut since hairstylists have predicted revamped versions of old-school haircuts (like the bixie and its cousin the mixie) will be some of the biggest we see in the new year. So, for something that's as cute as it is badass, we'll be taking our cue from the singer.
