6 trends from the Copenhagen Fashion Week runways that'll transform your 2024 wardrobe

And yes, it's still all about the pants.
6 Trends From Copenhagen Fashion Week That'll Transform Your 2024 Wardrobe

While the big four fashion capitals – New York, London, Milan and Paris – may be gearing up to showcase their autumn/winter trends over the next few weeks, one of the world's most up-and-coming fashion cities has just given us something of a preview into the season ahead.

Copenhagen Fashion Week has proven itself as a real contender for becoming a fifth fashion capital over the last few seasons, and if last week's autumn/winter showcase is anything to go by then it won't be long before the Scandinavian city is welcoming the very same editors-in-chief and celebrity attendees as its high fashion counterparts.

Of course, Copenhagen is already playing host to some of the coolest influencers on the circuit, with the city transforming into one of the most anticipated street style scenes each season.

But that's enough about the fashion on the front row, how about what's actually making it onto the catwalk?

Here are the six key trends from Copenhagen Fashion Week autumn/winter 2024 (that we're planning on trying out far sooner than that!)…

1. HIGH/LOW

You'll know all about the pants-bearing trend that's huge right now thanks to the likes of Gucci, Miu Miu, 16Arlington, Bottega Veneta, Nensi Dojaka and Erdem - more on that below - but for AW24 this look is being made not only more wearable but also far cosier thanks to the addition of a chunky knit on top. This high/low style of pairing super-dressy pieces with soft, casual staples is nothing new, but thanks to the runways in Copenhagen it's taken something of a super sexy update. And fear not, because if you're not sold on the whole underwear-as-outerwear thing you can always switch it out for short shorts or a sexy leather skirt à la Munthe.

2. ASYMMETRY

Gen Z might have brutally cancelled the millennial beauty world's beloved side-parting (perhaps unsuccessfully) – but they're not getting their hands on the fashion industry's love for a little asymmetry. In fact, it seems that some of Copenhagen's hottest brands – which are adored by Gen Z's biggest fashion fans – are leaning into the look more than ever. Whether it's one leg exposed via a dramatic side slit, some uneven off-the-shoulder action or a simple dipped hem, it looks as though – for next season at least – the wonkier your outfit the better.

3. LOW-RISE SKIRT SETS

The low-rise waist has been big news for over a year now – thanks in large part to everyone from Givenchy and Stella McCartney to Zimmermann, Proenza Schouler, Nensi Dojaka and Sandy Liang championing them within their spring/summer 2023 collections – but as we move into late 2024, the look is elevated to new heights with the introduction of the trend into the world of skirt sets. Whether paired with a jacket, a casual blouse or an out-out bralette-style top, these low-rise skirt sets are a super easy grab-and-go look that require little other styling or accessorising.

4. ELEVATED OUTERWEAR

Of course, with these being winter collections, it should come as no surprise that there were some pretty major outerwear moments worth discussing. Most notably, it was the elevation that stood out, with coats serving as entire looks in and of themselves. From adding belts to high-end embellishment and even shawl-like layered elements, if we're going to be spending as much time wrapped up in outerwear as we have done this winter then it only makes sense to really go for it.

5. PEPLUMS

Peplums re-emerged onto the fashion scene for AW23 thanks to the likes of Cecilie Bahnsen, Tove, Richard Quinn, Bottega Veneta, Off-White and 16Arlington, but now that those of us who swore we'd never revisit them after ditching the trend back in the 00s have gotten over the shock of their return, we're ready to admit that we're quite into them (again!). Thanks to the fit-and-flare silhouette they tend to be universally flattering, and they work just as well with skirts as they do dressing up a simple trouser.

6. PARTY PANTS

I told you we'd be talking about pants again. In fact, buckle up, because this trend is only increasing in momentum and it looks like we may be talking about them for quite a while longer… But while many previous iterations have seen sheer skirts take centre stage, according to many of the biggest brands at Copenhagen Fashion Week the look is about to become full-on, dressed-to-the-nines, party season approved. From evening dresses to entirely sheer two-pieces, it seems that the more risqué your partywear come winter, the better. Maybe just skip this one for the office Christmas party?
