When many millennials think of ultimate rom-com, one film often springs to mind: Bridget Jones' Diary. And now, we're in for another dose of Bridge, as a fourth film is officially on its way – and the Bridget Jones 4 trailer has just arrived.
We won't keep you wondering about the line-up for the new film. Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson are returning to the film franchise, with Chiwetel Ejiofor and One Day's Leo Woodall joining, too.
Reprising his role as Daniel Cleaver in the new Bridget Jones movie, Hugh Grant said during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show that “As well as being extremely funny, it's very, very sad.”
He added, “It’s actually a very good and moving script, and I say that as someone who is horrid about scripts."
The (for now) trifecta of films sees a likeable Bridget (played by Zellweger) caught in a love triangle between Daniel Cleaver (Grant), Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), and later Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey). Despite the first film being released over two decades ago, and the latest being released in 2016, author of the Bridget Jones series Helen Fielding confirmed back in 2022 that a fourth film is in the works.
Speaking to Radio Times, she said: “Yes I’m working on it and I really hope it will happen. Every film that gets made is a miracle – it’s really difficult to make films happen and to make them good. But I’d love to see it on the screen.”
It seems the rom-com renaissance really is here. Intrigued? Here's everything we know about the upcoming film, including the new Bridget Jones 4 trailer and details about the release date.
Sorry Bridge, but you belong in a bygone era that should never have existed.

Bridget Jones 4 trailer
The Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy trailer has arrived!
The trailer opens with a look into Bridget's life with Mark as they stroll down the street, before it's revealed that this is simply a memory.
Colin Firth and Hugh Grant both make appearances through the new trailer, with Daniel seen dubbing Bridget a “very, very naughty nun”.
We also see the introduction of two new love interests in the form of Mr Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and toyboy Roxster played by One Day star Leo Woodall.

Bridget Jones 4 plot
We don't know much yet — however, while the third film, Bridget Jones’s Baby strayed from Fielding’s books, the fourth film is confirmed to be an adaptation of Fielding’s book, Mad About The Boy, which was published in 2013.
(Warning: Major spoilers ahead).
Exactly 25 years on from the film’s release, I find myself crying, laughing and wincing along with her.

In the novel, a 51-year-old Bridget is a widow after Mark Darcy dies (yes, that's why Firth is sadly not returning to the franchise aside from a few brief cameos), an event which sets the tone for the book in which Bridget struggles with adapting to technology and raising two small children.
Bridget Jones 4 cast
So far, we know that Zellweger is set to make a return as the titular heroine — in fact, rumour has it, she's already looking for a temporary home in London where she can stay while filming.
Grant is also confirmed to be returning as the dashing, walking red flag, Daniel Cleaver.
Emma Thompson, who played Bridget's doctor in the third film, is also set to make a re-appearance. Shirley Henderson, James Callis and Sally Phillips all return as Bridget's besties.
Plus, a range of new cast members have been added: Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall (The White Lotus and One Day) play love interests for Bridget.
Nico Parker joins the cast as Bridget's nanny, while Isla Fisher makes a cameo as a local mum.
Bridget Jones 4 release date
There's not long to wait now! Bridget will be back soon — the film will land in some UK cinemas on February 13th — AKA Galentine's Day — and will also be available for streaming in the US on Peacock on the same day.
