There's a bit of an assumption that once you've coupled up thirties, your single days are behind you, making the best dating sites for over 50s redundant. However, sometimes your first love is short-lived, meaning the matchmaking apps get a second chance to prove their worth.

Case in point: my mother (with my help as her unofficial EA) is currently looking for her next big love — and because few people meet IRL these days, there's set to be a slot of swiping and typing involved. But where to start? Are Match.com, Hinge or Bumble the best dating sites worth her, or your, attention?

For context, there are more than 1,400 (!) dating platforms in the UK — and counting. This includes well-known names such as eHarmony, Bumble, Tinder, plus a host of dating sites for people over 40 and mature singles over 50. However, we — my mum and I as an invested onlooker — have rounded up the very best for those seeking love, lust or something in between.

Need some reassurance that it's not going to be all hard work and no reward? “By your 50s, you generally know yourself better — your likes, dislikes, boundaries, and deal-breakers,” says Logan Ury, A Harvard-trained dating coach, on-air expert for the upcoming Netflix series The Later Daters, and author of How to Not Die Alone: The Surprising Science That Will Help You Find Love. “This clarity helps in selecting more compatible matches and reduces the uncertainty that often comes with dating in your 20s.”

Not so scared? Great. Read on for our extensive guide to the senior dating scene, including a carefully curated list of the best online dating sites and apps for over-50s, and answers to common FAQs. You're welcome.

Ahead, the best dating apps for over 50s in 2026, according to relationship experts:

1. Best dating site for over 50s overall: Match
best dating apps 2024
  • Who it’s best for: Those seeking a serious, monogamous relationship and possibly marriage.
  • Special features: Ability to see who’s viewed you, emailed read receipt, dating-expert webinars and in-person events.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 18+ (most users are between 30–49).
  • Cost: Free to join, but paid-for plans start at £12.99.
  • Availability: Match.com, App Store, Google Play.

Match is one of the most established dating sites, with reports suggesting it currently has more than 96 million users — and 26.5% of those are over 50. “The more people, the better your odds,” says Susan Trombetti, a professional matchmaker and CEO of Exclusive Matchmaking. “Match is a very well-known site, so you’ll find a huge variety of people who fit your needs and criteria.”

The site’s design caters more toward those with serious intentions to find long-term relationships and marriages. Its long-form profile allows members to share up to 4,000 characters and up to 26 pictures — far more than most other sites (FYI, Bumble’s character count is 300). This helps paint a more comprehensive portrait of your potential dates, especially with its variety of in-depth screening questions about lifestyle, faith, and education. There are icebreaker prompts that can take the pressure off of having to think of clever openers, and with the free version, you can like up to 50 profiles per day (a lot compared to competitors). Pay for a subscription, and you’ll gain add-on features like the ability to see who’s opened and read your messages. Another stand-out feature of Match, according to Trombetti? It's in-person events, giving you another in-person opportunity to make connections.

ProsCons
Screening questions and icebreaker prompts.Only paid subscribers can send unlimited messages.
50 likes per day with free account.Wonky desktop experience.

2. Best dating site for over 50s runner-up: SeniorMatch
SeniorMatch

  • Who it’s best for: Ages 40+ looking to casually date, seriously date, and hook up.
  • Special features: Private photo album; verification; winks.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 40+.
  • Cost: Prices start at £12.99 per month for a six-month plan.
  • Availability: SeniorMatch.com/uk, App Store, and Google Play.

SeniorMatch is known as a great dating site for people over 40, as it doesn’t allow anyone under this age to join. Its sophisticated algorithm lets you filter for your focus, from future spouse to friend with benefits. It also has a verification process that requires users to upload a form of government identification, like a passport or driver’s license — an important safety measure against scamming. The site’s free version lets you create a profile, browse, send up to 30 winks per day (indicators of your interest), and reply to conversations. You cannot, however, start a conversation without a paid subscription.

An upgraded membership features a special private photo album that’s viewable only by users to whom you’ve specifically granted access. You can also search for criteria like religion, hobbies, and political beliefs, and view who’s interacted with your profile. SeniorMatch has been around since 2001, with over 6,000 active users and more than 36,000 success stories.

ProsCons
Curated 40+ dating pool.Extremely exclusive.
Social and networking modes.Cannot start conversations with free version.
Safety features like verification and private photos.

3. Best dating site for over 50s for marriage: eharmony

  • Who it’s best for: Anyone looking for serious relationships and marriage.
  • Special features: Ability to save a list of profiles; members receive a free profile review with tips; compatibility scores.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 18+.
  • Cost: Free membership, though this is limited, and you have to pay for premium plans. Subscription costs start at £7.95 per month for 24 months.
  • Availability: eharmony.co.uk, App Store, and Google Play.

“The dating app eharmony is one of the best for serious relationship-seekers who want to find a compatible partner based on a comprehensive personality test and a matching algorithm,” details LeMeita Smith, director of clinical services at United Health Services. “It is ideal for people who are searching for long-term commitment and marriage.”

Right off the bat, it weeds out people who don’t have the patience to invest at least 30 minutes filling out an intensive questionnaire and narrows the pool to those looking to put in the effort to find a more serious relationship. Its questions dive into the nuances of real-life partnership — with practical queries about how you communicate, make decisions, and react in various scenarios; as well as smaller explorations of everyday preferences (what temperature you like the house, when you go to bed). It then develops a compatibility score after comparing your quiz with other daters’. The higher the score, the more you agree in various areas.

The app’s thoughtfulness stands out in a sea of swipes. Though it’s worth noting that its free version is more limited. You can send unlimited likes, reply to prompts (up to five times per day), and send icebreakers. You cannot, however, see anyone’s photos until you pay for membership.

ProsCons
In-depth compatibility quiz and matching process.Cannot view photos with free version.
High success rate.

4. Best open-minded dating app for over 50s: FEELD
Image may contain Logo and Text
  • Who it’s best for: Open-minded over 50s who might be keen to explore non-monogamy.
  • Special features: AI-powered dating, meaning no swiping and takes a quality over quantity approach to matchmaking.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 18+.
  • Cost: Free to download and use, with membership options with added features for a fee.
  • Availability: FEELD.co, App Store and Google Play.

Not looking for a traditionally monogamous set-up? FEELD is an open-minded app that allows you to explore — whether that's polyamory or your sexual fluidity. But even the CEO of Feeld, Ana Kirova, thinks that description might be a little too limiting: “Ultimately, it’s a platform where you can meet people without having a goal. I think a lot of dating apps have this specific, either spoken or not, goal for the user, and they design the app in that way."

How it works: without an algorithm. Yep, this one's all about serendipity, rather than sending over supposedly suitable matches that actually don't meet your standards at all. Instead, it filters users by basic parameters — age, gender and location. Then it's up to you to filter through your options. Arguably, this is a slower route to love — but potentially a rather exciting and educational one.

ProsCons
A safe space to learn about new relationship structures, sexual orientations and interests. The opportunity to highlight your sexual interests can quickly steer the conversation in that direction.
Women aged 40 to 50 are one of the app's fastest growing groups. It might take a little longer as the app doesn't serve up matches via an algorithm — rather it gives you the option to meet anyone and everyone that matches your basics paramaters such as age and location.
Constantly evolving, always adding tags and labels suggested by users.

5. Best no-swiping dating app for over 50s: Fronno
Image may contain Sticker
  • Who it’s best for: Anyone dating with intention — or rather, not those looking to squeeze in multiple dates a week.
  • Special features: AI-powered dating, meaning no swiping and takes a quality over quantity approach to matchmaking.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 18+.
  • Cost: Free membership.
  • Availability: Currently only Fronno.com.

The thing I hated the most when dating via the apps? The endless rounds of swiping that don't even guarentee you a match. But Fronno has heard our cries, gifting us a low-effort route to love. Using AI — you know, that newfangled tech everyone is obsessed with RN — it offers up just one high-quality, high-compatibility match a week. All you'll get is their first name, a photo, and their phone number straight to your email so you can organise a meet-up IRL. Yep, they've skipped the chat function too, meaning no time wasting and/or ghosting.

ProsCons
Takes 10 seconds (tried and tested) to make an account.Currently only available in London.
No swiping, no scrolling, and no reading endless profiles. In its infancy, so anticipate some teething problems.
No app option… yet.

6. Best easy-to-use dating app for over 50s: SilverSingles
silversingles Logo
Courtesy of brand
  • Who it’s best for: Designed for adults 50+; can receive 3 to 7 compatible matches daily.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 50+.
  • Cost: While the SilverSingles basic membership is free — you will also receive recommended profiles but with limited communications with other members — a premium membership starts from £24.95 a month.
  • Availability: SilverSingles.co.uk, App Store, and Google Play.

“SilverSingles and OurTime are apps that are ideal for those over 50, as they only match users in the same age range,” says Lisa Lawless, a clinical psychotherapist. “Such apps may also offer more user-friendly tech than other apps do, as many older generations find that being high-tech is more challenging to use.”

In its easy-to-digest design, users first take a detailed personality test, then are partnered with compatible singles. You’re shown just three to seven profiles per day — a curation that’s far simpler to access than getting lost in endless swipes, though it could be frustrating if you want to see more than your daily options. With its free version, you can take the quiz and see your matches, but you must subscribe to reply and send messages. Still, signing up may be worth it if you’re looking for a dating site that intentionally narrows its participants to those of a more mature age.

ProsCons
Exclusive 50+ dating pool. Can only see a limited number of matches per day.
Match curation.Users must rely on the site’s prompt suggestions instead of their own.
Specific dating filters.Expensive.

7. Best dating app for over 50s for casual dating: Tinder
Image may contain Logo
Courtesy of brand
  • Who it’s best for: Anyone looking for a very easy-to-use, direct dating experience
  • Special features: Passport feature for travelling; incognito mode; unlimited rewinds
  • Free version available: Yes
  • Ages: 18+
  • Cost: Free, with Tinder Plus options from just 79p.
  • Availability: Tinder.com, App Store, and Google Play.

Tinder is an app that’s notorious for finding hookups — it invented the speedy swipe function, after all. And it’s exactly this relaxed atmosphere that’s appealing to mature age groups. “I’ve talked to many, many seniors who’ve had wonderful dating experiences on this app because it’s simple to use and very accessible,” Jess Carbino, explains former sociologist for Tinder and Bumble. “It’s highly democratised in general, and you can see the overwhelming swath of the population and people trying to find a variety of relationships.”

Forget labour-intensive quizzes and novel-length bios. Profiles are short and sweet, featuring a handful of photos with minimal text (the app recommends keeping bios under 45 words), which encourages you to react quickly and to DM to learn more. The app is a good starting platform if you’re unsure of what you want, are new to online dating, or are interested in meeting others seeking more casual arrangements. With its weekly membership option, you aren’t locked into a monthly fee, and the app has a giant user base that spans 190 countries. Passport mode allows you to easily change up your geography and chat with people around the world. It’s worth noting that the app’s demographic skews younger — less than 10% are over 40 — though this may be welcome for some.

ProsCons
Wide range of users and dating goals.May not be best for serious relationships.
Passport mode for travel.Age range skews younger.
Weekly subscription option.

8. Best free dating app for over 50s: Bumble
bumble

  • Who it’s best for: Anyone looking to casually or seriously date or make new friends.
  • Special features: Bumble BFF and Bizz modes; extend for one match per day; question game; video/audio calls; backtrack feature; incognito mode.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 18+.
  • Cost: Free to download and use, with premium options available for a fee.
  • Availability: Bumble.com/en, App Store, and Google Play.

The way the app works is that it gives women control over making the first move, which Trombetti says can help make them feel less vulnerable than in the traditional app setup, where either party can initiate a connection. Once you’ve matched with someone, you have 24 hours to talk or your connection expires. This urgency puts the onus on the woman to reach out and get outside of their comfort zone.

It’s a low-stakes app, says Heather Dugan, relationship expert, keynote speaker, and award-winning author of Date Like a Grownup: Anecdotes, Admissions of Guilt, & Advice Between Friends: “Bumble is easy entry—answer a few short, pithy answers, and you’re in. I generally suggest it to first-timers as a ‘get your toes in the water’ option.”

One of the most unique aspects is that the service extends beyond fostering romance—you can use Bumble for Friends to expand your social circle or Bumble Bizz to make professional contacts.

ProsCons
Easy-to-use interfaceYou must check daily or lose matches
Woman makes the first move
Ability to casually date, network, or make friends

9. Best dating app for over 50s for companionship: OurTime
ourtime logo
Courtesy of brand
  • Who it’s best for: Anyone looking for long-term relationships, marriage, or companionship
  • Free version available: Yes
  • Age range: 50+
  • Cost: Prices vary depending on plan, starting at $25 per month for Premium
  • Availability: OurTime.com, App Store, Google Play

“OurTime only focuses on singles over 50, so you won’t waste your time scrolling through non-age-appropriate dating profiles, nor be hounded by a youngster,” says Wendy Walsh, PhD, a relationship expert at DatingAdvice.com and psychology professor. The service is part of the group that also owns Match, Hinge, and OkCupid, and if you opt in, you’ll see matches from the entire network of sites. The site says it has more than 9 million visitors per month—a giant number to choose from, should you feel like you’re running out of options on other sites. Its survey has only a few questions to answer, and you can search for matches based on criteria (including “deal-breakers” like whether they have children) or let the site recommend partners.

ProsCons
Designed for people 50+Free members can only message once per day
Wide selectionVerification process is not as strict as other sites’

10. Best dating app for over 50s for younger matches: Hinge
hinge
Courtesy of brand
  • Who it’s best for: Anyone looking to casually or seriously date.
  • Special features: Conversation prompts and starters; voice prompts; one free superlike, otherwise known as a rose per week; transparent likes; reply reminders.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 18+.
  • Cost: Free to download, with Hinge Subscription options from £10.49.
  • Availability: Hinge.co, App Store and Google Play.

Though Hinge’s dating pool is mostly popular among millennials and Gen Z (over 30% of its users fall between the ages of 21 and 34), it can be a good option for anyone who enjoys stimulating conversation and wants to go on fun dates with people who are potentially younger than you. “Hinge is a great cost-effective option for casual dating since they have a free option,” says Nashira Kayode, a licensed therapist in Eastvale, California. “But Hinge is also viewed as more serious than other apps that are known for hookups, so the pressure to meet in person quickly is less likely.”

Connections are made when you like or comment on a specific element of a profile, such as a photo. This author has used it for years because of how straightforward and rewarding its free version is: I enjoy its creative fill-in prompts — examples include ‘a recent shower thought I had’ or ‘two truths and a lie’ — conversation starters, and its voice-memo feature. The latter is so helpful as a way to read someone’s tone, and its convo starters give me ways to get to know someone beyond their profile and pictures.

ProsCons
Thoughtful prompts and voice-memo feature allow for more quality conversations.Only 8 swipes per day on the free version.
Ability to see who likes you.Dating pool is younger.
Easy to use.

11. Best budget dating app for over 50s: OkCupid
OkCupid
Courtesy of brand
  • Who it’s best for: Anyone looking for a long-term relationship.
  • Special features: Deal-breaker filter; boosts that promote your profile; compatibility score; incognito mode.
  • Free version available: Yes.
  • Age range: 18+.
  • Cost: Free membership, but paid accounts start from £7.95.
  • Availability: OkCupid.com, App Store, and Google Play.

“OkCupid is best for people who are looking for diversity and inclusivity, as it caters to different sexual orientations, gender identities, and relationship styles,” says LeMeita Smith, director of clinical services at United Health Services. In 2013, it was the first dating app to introduce 22 genders and 13 orientations — a big difference from competitor sites, which largely offer binary options.

OkCupid is known for its large user base — supposedly more than 50,000 dates are made every week — detailed quiz, and matching like-minded people. “Through OkCupid’s questionnaire, I could filter by my deal-breakers — from big-picture things like religion, kids, marriage, monogamy—to more granular compatibility stuff, like feelings on jealousy, sleeping routines, and political issues,” says GLAMOUR reviewer, Tasneem Anjarwalla. “What’s more, I could then rank how important those things were to me, and how important I wanted them to be for the other person. The questions felt like fun BuzzFeed quizzes, and the more I answered, the more I saw the algorithm suggesting potential partners that really felt like people I’d be into.”

You do have to pay for OkCupid’s basic version to access unlimited likes, rewinds to do a double-take on someone you accidentally swiped past, and the ability to filter out deal-breakers. Upgrade to Premium if you want to see who’s liked you, to send three SuperLikes per week, and to view their answers to public questions.

ProsCons
Large, inclusive user base.Very limited profile access with free version.
Fun personality quizzes.Challenging to find more info about costs.
Deal-breaker filter.

How to choose the right dating site:

It would be foolish not to ask the experts for a step-by-step guide to finding love — or lust:

Do your research.

“Spend some time exploring before jumping into be sure the apps and sites you’re considering fit your own goals. Ask around; check on Reddit. Where are people your age finding one another in your city?” says Dugan.

Work out your ideal age range.

Maybe you’re open to dating someone younger. In this case, take into account the minimum age that the platform allows and the demographic it typically attracts. Users on apps like Hinge, Tinder, and Bumble tend to be younger than those on OurTime, SilverSingles, or SeniorMatch —either by design (an age minimum) or branding.

Flirt via free trials.

AKA try before you buy. “Always proceed slowly in opting for a paid subscription," says Dugan. "A little low-tech, free engagement time will at least show you if the site has appropriate and appealing matches in your area. These sites and apps are great tools and can provide significant access.

Try two to vary your experience and results.

“Dating is a numbers game,” says Trombetti. “I like eHarmony and Match because of the volume of people on those sites.”

Use the filters.

They allow you to narrow down based on age, geography, goals, politics, religion, sexual orientation, and more. Looking for a committed long-term relationship or marriage? Match, eHarmony, Silver Singles, SeniorMatch, OurTime, Date My Age, and OkCupid are your best bets. Want to date more casually? Turn to Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge.
