If you find yourself sticking to one go-to, neutral eyeshadow, then allow us to introduce Chanel's just-dropped summer makeup collection. Specifically, the Stylo Yeux Ombre Et Contour eye crayons, launched in seven cute and very colourful shades.

The edit – created by Ammy Drammeh, the global makeup creative partner for the brand – explores the “power of colour”. Drammeh said she wanted to “build a bridge between reality and fiction”.

The updated shades are inspired by fairytales and the jewel tone shades of blooming summer flowers. Our favourites include a juicy tango orange, a zingy lime green, a delicate powder blue, a silky pink and a gem-like amethyst. They look like the perfect way to inject some playfulness into our makeup routine and help us serve up some bold, beautiful and bright summer looks, so 5 team members put it to the test to find out…

Shade: Dream Leaf

I'm not necessarily a fan of any kind of eyeshadow or eyeliner crayon product, as they are usually very sheer, low quality and don't sit well on the skin, but the Chanel eye stylo is completely different. I was pleasantly surprised at how bold the pigment of the dream leaf shade came though, and it glided on like a dream.

The beautiful green glitter in the product was absolutely gorgeous and added a whole new dimension of colour to my eyes. I was initially a bit reluctant about trying out such a bold shade, as I typically don't work with green, but once applied I was immediately complimented by coworkers who asked what product I was using. It completely shut down any doubts I had.

One thing to note is that the product does move around and I did experience some colour fade a throughout the day, but this is not uncommon for crayon products. Overall it is a fantastic eye crayon, it might just need a good setting spray to really lock it into place.

Shade: Neon Dahlia

I was excited to try Chanel’s Stylo Ombre et Contour which is billed as an eyeshadow, eyeliner and kohl. I'm a huge fan of multi-use cosmetics as I want my products to work harder for me so I can buy less. I chose Neon Dahlia which is a deep purple colour with a bit of sparkle as I thought it matched my eye and skin colour well. My first impression when I put the swatch on my skin is that the colour is vibrant, fun, wearable and the hints of sparkle mean it can easily transport me from day to night. It’s easy to carry around and I like the crayon-style design.

The stick is easy to use and the product feels lightweight on my skin. I can use as much or as little as I need for the effect I want to create and easily blend it in using my fingers. However, I found the range of colours is limited, and due to the thickness of the pencil, I would have to use a separate eyeliner to create a more delicate effect.

Overall, I had fun experimenting with it as a liner and eyeshadow, and blending it with other colours in my make-up bag. As soon as I put it on, I received compliments from colleagues in the office which is always a good sign.

Shade: Nuage Bleu

I usually stick to classic eye makeup looks, so when this bold shade showed up on my desk, I was hesitant to try it. I went with Chanel's Stylo Ombre eyeshadow liner in Nudge Bleu – a gorgeous iridescent blue shade – which has a creamy texture that effortlessly glides along my waterline.

The initial colour pay-off was impressive as it is, but it’s also super buildable for those who want a more intense, dramatic look. Surprisingly, it still felt very wearable to me, offering a playful twist on my usual go-to black winged liner. I'll definitely be adding this to my beauty collection, especially for a pop of colour that brings a fun, fresh look.

Shade: Celestial Pink

Okay, let’s talk about the Chanel liner in Celestial Pink. This shade is a Barbiecore enthusiast’s dream. The colour is absolutely stunning — an iridescent pink that somehow gives off a Y2K vibe with a Y3K twist. And the shimmer? Perfectly sized sparkles that create a gorgeous pink glaze without being too cakey or too subtle.

So why didn’t I give it a 10/10? Honestly, while it’s gorgeous, it’s a bit too glitzy to make it into my regular makeup rotation. It’s giving more prom or a red carpet event, so for me, it’s just a little too much for daily wear.

On the plus side, it’s pleasantly buildable, which is great, but blending can be a bit tricky, so take your time and build it up slowly. Overall, it’s a stunning product, but I’ll save it for special occasions.

Shade: Atardecer

Although I don't wear a lot of eye makeup on the daily, I always welcome a subtle pop of colour, especially if it requires zero-to-no effort, and that's exactly what this Chanel eye crayon delivered. I tried the orange-y shade, which I initially thought would be a tad intimidating. However, the pigment was more subtle than I expected, and as it turns out, it complemented my brown eye colour beautifully. I opted for a cat-eye wing, and I thoroughly enjoyed the shimmery finish, which is sure to take any makeup look to a whole new level.
